Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University

Dr. Tripta Thakur is an eminent academician and power sector expert currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (VMSB UTU), Dehradun, Uttarakhand. She assumed this position in 2025 after being appointed by the Governor of Uttarakhand for a three year tenure. Dr. Thakur has more than three decades of experience in academia, research, and leadership in the energy and power sector. Prior to joining UTU, she served as the Director General of the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, where she played a key role in strengthening capacity building and professional training for the power sector. During her tenure, NPTI expanded its programs in advanced areas such as smart grids, cyber security, SCADA, and advanced metering infrastructure. Dr. Thakur holds a Master’s degree in Power Electronics from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and a Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Earlier in her career, she served as Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal, contributing extensively to teaching and research in power systems and electrical engineering. With over 33 years of academic and research experience, Dr. Thakur has authored nearly 100 research publications and has been associated with several national and international initiatives in energy systems and technical education. She has also been a technical member of the International Electrotechnical Commission and has worked on multiple projects related to power sector reforms, electricity markets, and capacity development across South Asia. Dr. Thakur has received several prestigious recognitions, including the Women in Energy Award (2025) from the Indian Energy Storage Alliance, the Sushma Swaraj Stree Shakti Engineering Samman (2024), and the Women Technology Innovation Award from the Indian Smart Grid Forum. Her work focuses on energy transition, power sector capacity building, and strengthening technical education in emerging technologies.
