Andres Carvallo is currently the Global Head of Energy Business Unit at Larsen & Toubro Semiconductor Technologies LTD. (LTSCT). Working from the US HQ in Austin TX, Andres drives the strategy, creation, and commercialization of a new portfolio of semiconductors that enable the next generation systems and sensors delivering a two-way power flow and two-way data HV/MV/LV renewable energy and DER capable electric grid while being monitored, controlled, and optimized real-time with networks, edge computing, and AI across all elements. Andres Carvallo is a 36-times award-winning executive, engineer, speaker, author, editor, researcher, and professor. Andres has published 48 books (37 in Power Engineering, 5 in Telecom/IoT, and 6 in Building Technologies). Andres is globally recognized by IEEE as one of the early developers of the smart grid concept and technology. Andres defined the term smart grid on March 5, 2004. Andres championed Austin Energy's utility transformation by investing over $4 billion in a broad range of technologies including its smart grid program design and implementation from 2003 – 2010. Andres also architected the Pecan Street Project in 2009. Andres has also been responsible for the successful development and commercialization of over 50 products at six start-ups and leading global companies like Philips Electronics’ Mobile & Wireless Division, Digital Equipment’s Personal Computer Business Unit (now HPE), and Borland’s International Operations from zero. Furthermore, Andres started his career as a Windows product manager at Microsoft in Redmond, WA. Andres has a BS in Mechanical Engineering with concentrations in robotics and control systems from The University of Kansas, and executive program certificates in business management, quality management, and power engineering from Stanford University, The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania, and The University of Idaho respectively
