IEC Special Envoy for Smart Electrification

Richard Schomberg is IEC Special Envoy for Smart Electrification (www.IEC.ch). Recipient of the IEC 2011 Lord Kelvin award. He has chaired the IEC Systems Committee on Smart Energy, TC 8: Systems aspects for electrical energy supply, PC 118: Smart Grid User Interface, TC 45: Nuclear instrumentation, and the Strategic Group 3 on Smart Grid. President of a consulting practice (Industrial Strategy, Complex Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Standardization), he was previously EDF VP Corporate Standardization, and appointed EDF Group Corporate Fellow. He has been VP EDF North America Inc. and had the responsibility of EDF corporate R&D activities in North America. Emeritus member of the US DoE Gridwise Architecture Council, he was System Engineering Professor at Centrale-Supelec (top ranked France College), board member of the Technology Advisory Board of Southern California Edison, co-chair of the SGIP DEUG on Transmission- Distribution (NIST), Chair of Intelligrid Strategy Committee (Electric Power Research Institute – Chauncey Starr Award 2005).
