Professor, IIT Kanpur

Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, where he has been a prominent faculty member since 2009. A leading authority in power systems engineering, his research focuses on the monitoring, control, and protection of modern electrical infrastructures. His work is primarily centered on smart grids, microgrids, power system stability, and the advanced application of synchronized measurement technologies---such as Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs)---to enhance the resilience of transmission and distribution networks. Dr. Chakrabarti holds an impressive academic and professional portfolio, including a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. Before his tenure at IIT Kanpur, he garnered extensive international and industrial experience through roles at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), ABB Limited, and various academic institutions abroad. A Fellow of prestigious bodies like the IEEE and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), he is widely recognized for bridging the gap between theoretical power system dynamics and practical, real-world utility applications.
