Former CEO, Grid India
Sushil Kumar (S.K.) Soonee is a prominent figure in the Indian power sector, best known as the founder Chief Executive Officer of the Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO), now known as Grid India. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he has dedicated over four decades to the evolution of India's electrical infrastructure. He is widely credited with spearheading the complex transition of the Indian power system from a fragmented network of regional grids into a unified, synchronous National Grid. His expertise spans power system operation, planning, and the development of the Indian electricity market, including the implementation of open access and the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) mechanism. Beyond his executive leadership, Mr. Soonee is recognized internationally for his contributions to "institutional engineering" and grid governance. He has represented India on prestigious global platforms such as the CIGRE Study Committees and is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kharagpur and the Power Line Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Power Sector.
