Justice Shabihul Hasnain ‘Shastri’ retired from the Allahabad High Court and joined this office as Chairperson, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission on 22.07.2021. With his ancestral home in Dandupur, Allahabad, Justice Hasnain’s educational journey happened across the State of Uttar Pradesh due to his father’s transferable post as an Electrical Engineer with the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Parishad. He completed his LLB from the University of Lucknow in 1981, post which he started his practice at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court and other judicial institutions. During his illustrious career as a lawyer, Justice Hasnain represented the Union of India and the State of Uttar Pradesh as Standing Counsel for over a decade each. He was also a Counsel for Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd, Uttar Pradesh Mandi Parishad, Lucknow Development Authority, and UPDESCO among others. He was an active member of the Oudh Bar Association, Lucknow where he contested five elections as an office bearer and won each of them. It is a unique distinction. He has also served as an elected member of the Executive Council of Lucknow University for two consecutive terms and was nominated by His Excellency the Governor (Chancellor) of Uttar Pradesh, Late Shri Vishnu Kant Shastri for the third term. Justice Hasnain has also served as Member of the Board of Management, KGMC, Lucknow and as a nominated Member of Executive Council of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University, Lucknow. After twenty four years of practice as an eminent Lawyer he worked in almost every field of the law, he was elevated as Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2008. Subsequently, in the year 2010, he became a permanent Judge at the Allahabad High Court where he retired from in the year 2020. Keeping in sync with his keen desire to continue learning different languages and cultures, Justice Hasnain completed his ‘Shastri’ degree from the National Sanskrit University in 2020.
