Dr. Kenneth C. Budka is Sr. Partner at Nokia Bell Labs’ technology consulting arm Bell Labs Consulting. In this capacity, he serves as strategic advisor to energy and other industrial enterprises world-wide, helping prepare their information and communications technology infrastructure to meet the technical and business challenges of the future. Ken led Nokia Bell Labs’ multi-faceted smart grid R&D effort focusing on the development of secure, high performance communications protocols and architectures to support the introduction of smart grid applications; development of analytical techniques to transform meter, SCADA and other data into information useful in grid control, operations and optimization; and development and delivery of strategic network transformation services for energy companies. Building upon this work, he co-authored the book Communication Networks for Smart Grid: Making Smart Grid Real (Springer). Ken received the Ph.D. and M.Sci. degrees in Engineering Science from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA and the B.S.E.E. summa cum laude from Union College in Schenectady, New York USA. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, holds 21 patents and is the author of over 20 papers in refereed technical journals.
