Head -- ETD, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

Asit Kumar Maharana is a senior standards professional currently serving as Head of the Electrotechnical Department (ETD) and Scientist-E at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. In this role, he leads the development and coordination of Indian standards related to electrical and electrotechnical systems, including power equipment, electrical appliances, renewable-energy technologies, and emerging electrical infrastructure. He works closely with industry, government agencies, research institutions, and technical committees to formulate, revise, and harmonize national standards with international frameworks such as IEC standards, ensuring safety, performance, and interoperability across India's electrical ecosystem. With extensive experience in standards formulation, technical committee coordination, and regulatory engagement, he plays a key role in advancing quality infrastructure and supporting innovation and compliance in India's power and electrical sectors.
