Smart Grid CoE Manager, Eskom Research Testing & Development

Nick Singh is the Head of the Smart Grids Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the Microgrid Programme Director at Eskom Research, Testing & Development (RT&D). With over 27 years of experience in the energy sector, he specializes in smart grids, control systems, and renewable integration. In his current leadership role, he manages a team of engineers and scientists and oversees laboratories that support the utility's requirements across the entire energy value chain---from generation and transmission to distribution and the end customer. Beyond his internal responsibilities at Eskom, Mr. Singh is a prominent figure in the global energy community. He is a board member of the Global Smart Energy Federation (GSEF) and serves as its ambassador for Anglo-Phonic Africa. His work is central to Eskom's Just Energy Transition (JET), including leading the repurposing of the decommissioned Komati Power Station into a microgrid assembly and manufacturing facility. He actively fosters international smart grid collaborations and contributes to setting industry standards for Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
